Biographical / Historical

André Marchal was a French organist and teacher. Born blind, he began his organ studies at the age of nine at the National Institute for the Blind, where from 1918 onward he was professor of organ. He studied with Eugène Gigout at the Paris Conservatory; and there in 1913, he won the first prize in organ playing. Additionally he was the titular organist of two Parisian churches, Saint-Germain-des-Prés (1915–1945) and Saint-Eustache (1945–1963).
