M.P. Möller Collection

The collection consists of contract ledgers, factory ledgers, business ledgers, personnel records, photographs, and organ correspondence/contract files of the M.P. Möller Organ Company. The collection also contains records of the Kinetic Engineering Company.

Biographical / Historical

M.P. Möller Organ Company was established by Mathias Peter Möller in Hagerstown, Maryland, in 1881. In 1921, the company was incorporated as M.P. Möller, Inc. Over a period of more than a hundred years, the company built almost 12,000 pipe organs installed throughout the United States. Organs were also sent to Denmark, England, Japan, Mexico, Panama, South Africa, and Uruguay. The company was forced into bankruptcy in 1992. After failed attempts to revive the company, its assets were liquidated in 1995.

Series 10: Sales commissions ledgers. Series 11: Organs terms of sale ledgers. Series 12: Factory inventory ledgers. Series 13: Organ installers’ ledgers. Series 14: Lumber orders ledgers. Series 15: Miscellaneous ledgers. Series 16: Job cost accounting ledgers. Series 17: Shipping ledgers. Series 18: Employee time sheet ledgers. Series 19: Pipe-makers’ ledgers. Series 20: Adjusting and closing ledgers. Series 21: General/miscellaneous ledgers. Series 22: Kinetic Engineering Company ledgers. Series 23: Music store payroll ledgers; Series 24: Music store trial balance ledgers. Series 25: Music store instruments sales ledgers.

Custodial History

The Möller collection was purchased in auction by the Allen Organ Company, Macungie, Pennsylvania. In the early part of 1995, the Allen Co. donated the collection to the Organ Historical Society Library and Archives.
